Want to Try Something New This Year? Here Are 3 Events We Recommend
1. HYROX
Beau and Melissa take on HYROX Vegas together in just a few weeks.
You’ve probably heard the buzz! If you love functional fitness mixed with some running, HYROX is a great way to test yourself outside the gym.
HYROX combines running with movements like sled pushes, lunges, and burpees— to create a true full-body challenge. It’s intense, very well-structured, and incredibly rewarding, especially for people who enjoy training with purpose. Even better, it can be done as a team, making it a fun shared experience and giving you someone to split the burpees with 😉!
Be on the lookout for HYROX workshops at MoveRx, as we have our eyes set on a few HYROX races in 2026!
Who it’s great for:
CrossFitters, runners who want to try something new, someone who wants a vacation with a little bit of exercise, and anyone who enjoys structured competition.
2. A Local Race
You don’t need a massive event to do something meaningful—sometimes a local race is the perfect first step.
Signing up for a 5K, 10K, or half-marathon gives your training direction and introduces you to the amazing local running community in Acadiana! It’s accessible, motivating, and often the gateway to bigger goals (like trail races, a full marathon, or even an ultra). Many runners in our community started here—and never looked back.
It’s not too late to sign up for the Zydeco Marathon in Lafayette, which offers all of the race formats listed above!
Who it’s great for:
New runners, weekend warriors, and those who want to support a healthy Acadiana.
3. A Triathlon
If swimming feels like the biggest hurdle, you’re not alone. The MPCS Triathlon keeps it approachable with a 200-yard pool swim—perfect for first-timers.
A triathlon is the ultimate “something new” challenge.
Swimming, biking, and running demand practice, patience, and smart preparation. The variety keeps training fresh, reduces burnout, and builds well-rounded fitness. For many people, a triathlon isn’t just a race—it’s a confidence-builder that changes how they see themselves. From sprint triathlons like the Miles Perret Cancer Services Triathlon in September to a full-blown Ironman race, if you start now, you’ll have plenty of time to prepare!
And a quick bonus: Beau is a Certified Pro Bike Fitter, meaning if you’re considering a triathlon, proper setup, comfort, and efficiency are already covered—he’ll get you right.
Who it’s great for:
Endurance athletes, goal-driven personalities, and people who like variety.
